In 2013, Penh Lenh Founder, Rachel Dodson, left her job as a modeling agent in New York City to pursue a career in empowering women through ethical fashion. Rachel traveled to Phnom Penh and saw the need for women to be given educational opportunities and self-sustaining jobs. Srey Mao was born and raised in Kratie. She moved to the capital city of Phnom Penh at the age of 16 to study Cosmetology. Before joining forces with Rachel to create Penh Lenh, Srey Mao was co-owner of a salon. With a shared passion for empowering women, ethical fashion, and working hard, Rachel and Srey Mao started Penh Lenh in 2013. Penh Lenh, meaning “whole,” sets out to empower young women in Cambodia to pursue their life goals through fair and dignified employment, skill training, and educational opportunities. Their products are handcrafted in Phnom Penh and each piece is crafted using conflict free, 14k gold-filled material along with semi-precious gemstones. The gemstones are sourced regionally in Southeast Asia by the team to ensure quality. Each piece represents the strength and beauty of the women creating them and also every queen wearing them.
